This article addresses some of the research issues related to border wars in Ancient Greece. Firstly, the ritual border wars are explored, and whether and in what forms their ritual character can be related to initiation rituals. Secondly, the problem of disputed borderland is examined, including related issues such as border linearity and its legal definition. Thirdly, the role of koina in adjudicating centuries-old border disputes involved in federalisation processes is analysed.
