What constituted art market power in the first half of the 19th century? Abstract
What constituted art market power in the first half of the 19th century? The exploration of the dealing activities of Giovanni Querci della Rovere, a hitherto elusive dealer in Old Master paintings based in Venice during the Austrian occupation of the city (1815-1866), suggests that expanding internationally was the trump card to stand out in a saturated market. The examination of his biography and business enables us to explore the advantages, as well as the risks, of dealing “beyond borders” at that time, and sheds light on some of the practical challenges that characterized the dawn of transnational dealing.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
