Abstract
True sustainability has been identified as one of the most important business approaches contributing to the economic system's sustainable transition. Companies investing in common goods as part of their value-creation process might open new opportunities to solve societal and environmental challenges. This business approach is however risky and complex since true sustainability asks for the engagement of a heterogenous set of stakeholders. The paper shows how new organizational structures – platforms and ecosystems – support an effective and efficient engagement of multiple stakeholders to reach true sustainability outcomes. An indepth longitudinal case study of Gamindo, an Italian startup, highlights how true sustainability can emerge as a common value proposition in a multi-purpose platform ecosystem reaching true sustainability. True sustainability can be seen as the catalyst of a heterogeneous set of purpose-driven actors that interact in a complementary way to produce positive externalities for the environment and society as a whole. Results provide new insights on how intermediaries platforms and ecosystems may play a role in the widespread of new practices, behaviors, and coordination mechanisms enabling true sustainable outcomes| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
