THE REFORM OF THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL BETWEEN POLITICS AND LAW. Over the past three decades, numerous attempts to reform the U.N. Security Council have met insurmountable legal and political barriers. The dimensions of the reformed Council and, more importantly, the enlargement of its permanent component, remain hotly contested subjects deadlocked by debate. However, recent events and meaningful resolutions could result in profound revisions of the veto power, with the potential to alter the relationship between the Security Council and the General Assembly.
