La dimensione produttiva delle rimesse collettive: un tentativo di classificazione e nuovi percorsi di ricerca.

In the context of the booming of migrants’ remittances in recent decades, governments and researchers have studied strategies to valorize remittances for development. Growing attention is being devoted to the “collective remittances”. Collective remittances are transfers of financial resources, pooled and coordinated by a group of migrants residing abroad, that are predominantly devoted to financing community development projects in the home countries. The resources and the skills involved in these processes have induced policy makers to reflect about applications of these remittances to market ends. We review the literature on collective remittances and systematize a number of empirical cases to identify a taxonomy of collective remittances that is meant to contribute to the evaluation of the productive potential of collective remittances.
