The possibility to design inexpensive artificial smart skins with advanced electromagnetic wave control capabilities is addressed with reference to their application in the Smart Electromagnetic Environment (SEE) framework. To this end, the complex multi-scale problem associated with the synthesis of the smart skin descriptors is firstly recast in terms of a phase-only inverse source one. The smart skin susceptibility tensor distribution and associated unit cell descriptors are then optimized through a System-by-Design (SbD) strategy. Preliminary numerical results are shown to assess the potentialities of the proposed design process in terms of both wave control and synthesis efficiency.

Abstract
The possibility to design inexpensive artificial smart skins with advanced electromagnetic wave control capabilities is addressed with reference to their application in the Smart Electromagnetic Environment (SEE) framework. To this end, the complex multi-scale problem associated with the synthesis of the smart skin descriptors is firstly recast in terms of a phase-only inverse source one. The smart skin susceptibility tensor distribution and associated unit cell descriptors are then optimized through a System-by-Design (SbD) strategy. Preliminary numerical results are shown to assess the potentialities of the proposed design process in terms of both wave control and synthesis efficiency.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
