His essay focuses on the ways in which the Marian apocrypha are used in the "Golden Legend". In particular, the legends "De nativitate sanctae Mariae virginis", "De nativitate Domini", and "De assumptione beatae Virginis Mariae" are analyzed. Jacobus of Varazze makes extensive use of the apocryphal texts, citing them directly or drawing on earlier Dominican hagiographers. He is not only interested in the narrative features of apocryphal literature, but also seeks to reconsider its value and theological implications, thereby offering a more complete and significant image of Mary.

Jacobus of Varazze makes extensive use of the apocryphal texts, citing them directly or drawing on earlier Dominican hagiographers. He is not only interested in the narrative features of apocryphal literature, but also seeks to reconsider its value and theological implications, thereby offering a more complete and significant image of Mary.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
