EnglishMy essay examines the influence of Goethe’s scientific and poetic work on Georg Simmel’s sociology and philosophy; it is divided into five sections: 1. A general overview of the “Idee Goethe”, the role of individuality, and a brief history of the different interpretations. 2. An attempt at a comparative definition of “Gestalt”, “Bildung” and “Typus” in the work of both authors. 3. A discussion of the role of “visual thinking”, and the conception of truth and error. 4. An analysis of liminal phenomena and the question of space. 5. Conclusion: a classical legacy in a modern thinker.
