Abstract

Data interaction between power consumers and utilities is one of the distinctive features of smart grid. The smart meter plays a core role in data collection and transmission process, which is also considered as one of the most power consuming devices in the whole architecture of distribution power grid. With the large-scale distribution of smart meters in high-density residential communities and increasing data transmission, power saving of smart meter has recently become an attractive research topic in both academia and industry. In this paper, we propose a novel time sequence scheduling based power saving mechanism for controlling the data transmission between smart meters and a sub-data center located in the secondary substation in distribution grid, via establishing two-mode switch target zones in the local smart grid community. We also explore the relationship between the efficiency of power saving based on the new strategy and the number of divided target zones. Simulation resul...
