The Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy) developed an analysis procedure finalized to the school buildings energy retrofitting. For this experimental project was identified an high school “Istituto Floriani”, located in Riva del Garda (Italy), as case study to verify the methodology developed. The procedure consists on the analysis of the energy behavior of the whole building and the consequent suggestion of retrofit solutions referring to the building envelope as well as to the building energy systems. The aim of these possible solutions is the improvement of the living comfort and of the energy efficiency, at the same time. The methodology of this procedure was divided in four steps: - Monitoring of thermal comfort and energy consumption of the building. - Propose of construction solutions to improve the energy efficiency of the whole building. - Testing of the predicted solutions through the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP software) to reduce the annual heating demand (< 25 kWh/m2y) and improve the living comfort of the school building. - Executive project of the energy retrofit solutions. This procedure, started two years ago, involved on the different levels of research, a large number of operators as students and teachers of “Istituto Floriani” coordinated by experts of APRIE ( Agency for the Energetic Resources of the Local Gouvernment). They defined the feasibility of energy retrofit operations in a preliminary project. The University Department through the University Centre for smart buildings (CUNEDI) is supervising the whole project especially the critical constructive details and the final execution work aiming to optimize the financial and energy convenience of requalification.
