La sostenibilità nelle fasi di gestione manutenzione dei musei: un approccio basato sulle evidenze

The design of museum buildings, today, should be strongly related to the sustainability concept as well as any other building; sustainable buildings are intended as buildings distinguished in terms of environmental quality issues, low energy consumption among them, in this case specifically referred to usage, management and maintenance phases. As a matter of fact, museum buildings often include technological solutions planned for each specific building, arranged with innovation-driven, or simply “new”, building products and components; additionally, museum buildings have a strong energy impact on both territory and urban level, because of their dimensions and their use, requiring special heating, cooling and ventilation systems, besides the need of more and more reduced running budgets. The authors suggest an approach defining basic markers related to essential parameters involved in museum buildings sustainability design as to all the building process phases. In this view, such markers should be inferred from values gathered from existing (or just designed) museum buildings, reconsidering and readjusting such values on the base of evidence (experience, standards and literature recommendations) in terms of energy saving. All such considered, the paper introduces a form for collecting basic information, such as energy consumption due to space heating, cooling and ventilation, cleaning procedures, substitution and/or refurbishment procedures. Moreover, as an example, the paper presents a set of data gathered with reference to the Museum of the Electrical Technique of the University of Pavia (Italy), sketching a few preliminary evaluations. Finally, the paper outlines the procedures to be followed in order to set up a “planning booklet”, based on a feedback-based method starting from survey forms: a check list for designers is made in available such a way, to support proper energy expenditure design throughout the management phase and maintenance phase of museum buildings.
