The paper deals with -te, an interrogative mark that occurs in North-eastern Italian dialects with 1st singular and 1st plural person verb forms. The origin of the particle from an enclitic pronominal form (1st person) is proposed. Moreover, a description of the contexts where -te occurs is given. The examples that are given (from written and oral sources) confirm that the particle serves to express the speaker's non assertive modality, not only with interrogative sentences, but also with optative and subjunctive constructions.

Abstract
The paper deals with -te, an interrogative mark that occurs in North-eastern Italian dialects with 1st singular and 1st plural person verb forms. The origin of the particle from an enclitic pronominal form (1st person) is proposed. Moreover, a description of the contexts where -te occurs is given. The examples that are given (from written and oral sources) confirm that the particle serves to express the speaker's non assertive modality, not only with interrogative sentences, but also with optative and subjunctive constructions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
