The article analyses several intersemiotic translations of Old Norse sagas into comics. Particular attention is paid to popular Italian comics, from the period after World War II to the 21th Century. The article shows how both popularized academic knowledge and inherited popular ideas about the “savage North” contribute to creating the fictional world of Italian comics.
