This research reflect on the city of welfare in the Province of Trento, pointing the archipelago of neighborhoods such as urban laboratories. The topic concerns the sustainable urban regeneration of the social housing neighborhoods, built along the Adige Valley between 1920 and 1980. Regenerate these places - and through them the city - does not mean only to address aspects of degradation (due to the characteristics and the age of the buildings or energy efficiency) but to explore the potential of a new project. This regeneration must be understood as an hyper-cycle refers both to the low technological quality of the buildings and to the low-intensity and spatial articulation of this urban fragment. The proposed hypercycle can operate from new conceptual and design tools that derived from the ordinary inhabitants practices, to establish a network between different districts in the city, to stratify micro-relationships between the different islands-archipelago, between services and opportunities, in a kind of co-neighbor. Above all, it may foreshadow and give consistency to the neighborhoods as a “new centrality” to be rethought in relation to the “empty”, which now represents the true distance between things and people, empty that is the element which more offers itself to the project and that is so full for new urban and social dynamics.
