Mountain regions are naturally exposed to extreme floods, causing strong morphological variations of the land surface and considerable damages. Effective and incisive safeguard actions against these phenomena should appeal to cutting-edge strategy, echnology and numerical tools. Abstract

Mountain regions are naturally exposed to extreme floods, causing strong morphological variations of the land surface and considerable damages. Effective and incisive safeguard actions against these phenomena should appeal to cutting-edge strategy, echnology and numerical tools. However, this approach introduces high computational burden and requires not user-friendly tools, often developed in the field of research. This work proposes a possible solution to overcome these important drawbacks, presenting the integration between the model TRENT2D and the WebGIS technology of the client Terra3. The newly developed working environment allows model input and output data to be displayed, organised and analysed easily and intuitively. Moreover, this solution transfers the whole computational cost on a server. In this way, lead time is lower, in comparison with lead time in non-integrated working environments, and the production cost of studies and surveys is considerably reduced. The general purpose of this contribution is to facilitate the diffusion of advanced, reliable, physically-based and state-of-the-art approaches, suitable for event back-analyses, hazard mapping and mitigation-measures planning.
