Many software tools allow annotating electronic documents. However, in most cases, they only support some basic functionality, such as highlighting text and adding generic notes. This is not enough to offer a rich environment that is suited to the needs of a learner. In fact, these basic functionalities are not enough to adequately support the rich variety of processes that characterize active reading. Also, it is rare to find annotation tools offering the possibility to add multimodal or multisensorial notes or stimuli. Q-Book, presented in this paper, is a prototype that takes into account all these aspects, and also considers and supports the social dimension of reading.

Abstract
Many software tools allow annotating electronic documents. However, in most cases, they only support some basic functionality, such as highlighting text and adding generic notes. This is not enough to offer a rich environment that is suited to the needs of a learner. In fact, these basic functionalities are not enough to adequately support the rich variety of processes that characterize active reading. Also, it is rare to find annotation tools offering the possibility to add multimodal or multisensorial notes or stimuli. Q-Book, presented in this paper, is a prototype that takes into account all these aspects, and also considers and supports the social dimension of reading.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
