Extended space in art and perception

This article analyses commonalities between perceptual and pictorial space by correlating scientific results and aesthetic proposals; specifically, it considers the extendedness of visual space, the nature of visual appearances, depth perception and virtual movement in vision. These attributes come into play during the making of two- and three-dimensional artwork such as paintings and sculptures. The concepts of extended space and appearance also offer an opportunity for discussion aimed at externalists and internalists.
