In this paper, we report on our participatory experience at the Barcellona Congress and highlight the advantages of attending such conferences for doctoral students. The IGU meeting pointed out the dynamics of economic spaces including a wellselected studies on social, political and environmental related transformation. Among this, studies using the lens of gender stressed the importance of considering women’s situation in some extreme economic contexts. Additionally, we included a discussion on the field trip experience: an interesting way to practice geography by doing.
