The results of several investigations and projects confirmed that Information Technology Communications can promote new forms of participation in the public sphere, and especially among the young they favor new types of personal communication. On the other side, the use of ITC can encourage malfeasance and illegal activities from companies and private individuals. The paper discuss the transformations that social behaviour is undergoing in contemporary society in deep personal spheres such as intimate relations, social cohesion and public participation by means of an empirical study performed on a sample of young adults and adolescents. Specifically the study analyzed the perception of privacy that young people have in using IT communications and correlate it to the level of confidence and trust in group relationships and societal rules concerning technology uses. The aim is to provide evidence that privacy of the individual (and in particular of vulnerable groups) is still depending a lot on the social conditions and institutional provisions that determine the boundaries of what is public or commodificable (and what is not such) and thus needs to be protected or used according to specific social rules of conduct.
