Within the emerging 'smart electromagnetic (EM) environments' paradigm, this work presents an innovative approach for the design of future-generation communication systems. The proposed strategy is aimed at synthesizing a user-defined field distribution in a given domain by opportunistically exploiting the complex scattering environment in which both primary source and receiving terminals operate. An illustrative example is shown to provide a preliminary proof-of-concept of the effectiveness and potentialities of the proposed methodology.

Abstract

Within the emerging 'smart electromagnetic (EM) environments' paradigm, this work presents an innovative approach for the design of future-generation communication systems. The proposed strategy is aimed at synthesizing a user-defined field distribution in a given domain by opportunistically exploiting the complex scattering environment in which both primary source and receiving terminals operate. An illustrative example is shown to provide a preliminary proof-of-concept of the effectiveness and potentialities of the proposed methodology.
