The forthcoming need of smart/reconfigurable antenna systems for next generation communication and radar applications leads antenna designers to choose phased arrays. However, the architecture costs are the main obstacle to the deployment of arrays. This work addresses the problem of designing optimal unconventional array architectures with the aim of reducing the array complexity, still satisfying challenging requirements. More in detail, it is focused on tiled arrays whose modularity allows to further decrease the costs making the architecture simple to produce and easy to maintain.

Abstract
