Nowadays using smart devices it is possible to optimize the indoor comfort in the buildings: temperature control, shading level, artificial lighting use can fit automatically the user needs and at the same time reduce the energy consumption. Many existing examples, already monitored and analyzed, can demonstrate the efficiency of automation control system. One important new application of smart technology is its use in nursing home. The CUnEdI (University Centre for Intelligent Building) of the University of Trento has developed a methodology to implement scenarios to quantify and apply smart technology in existing build to reduce energy consumption maintaining indoor comfort conditions. The scenarios have been validated by the monitoring, the analysis and the discussion of the photometric parameters (inside illuminance, daylight glare index calculation, outside illuminance, etc.) and thermoigrometric parameters (inside temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, etc.). These data have been related with the modality and the opportunity of the manual/automatic regulation of the lighting and conditioning systems. The objective of the research is a specific casa study: three offices of the FAR SYSTEMS company in Rovereto, Italy. These rooms are equipped with occupancy detectors, illuminance sensors, dimming actuators, room controllers and outside shading system (vertical lamellas) installed and programmed specifically for each scenario. In this paper we refer about the comparison of the lighting and thermal energy use in these rooms for the implemented scenarios. Specifically we isolate the quantitative difference between energy performance of conventional and automated control scenarios, using standardisation techniques that consider differences in occupancy duration, as well as outdoor radiation levels and comfort parameter for thermal and lighting conditions. The results obtained for this case study could be applied, with specific correction factors, for nursing room as well.
